The United Arab Emirates now accounts for 19% of total rooms under construction in the region a recent research paper has stated.

More than 1,000 hotel rooms became active in the UAE in November 2015, including three global hotel brands entering Dubai and Sharjah, benefiting from the growth of tourism in the country, according to a recent report issued by STR Global.

Dubai has witnessed 618 rooms and new hotel apartments enter the hospitality sector, as the sector is targeting roughly 92,000 rooms by the end of this year, compared with 76,000 during the first half of the year.

Sharjah saw 349 new hotel rooms opening this month, including the launch of Sheraton Sharjah Beach Resort & Spa by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, in line with the emirate’s plan to increase capacity to 15,000 hotel rooms by 2020.

The STR Global report also highlighted the hotel sector in the country accounted for 103,749 rooms out of the total hotel rooms under construction in the Middle East.
