Dead Rabbit NYC were in Dubai as part of a mixology contest that saw head bartender Jillian Vose lock horns with Dubai’s best. Their first stop, was at Zuma Dubai, where Vose took on Zuma’s Jimmy Barrat.

“I must say they really brought it, even before the contest they (Zuma) were on different social media channels talking about the face off,” said the New York-based mixologist.

A set of three intense contests decided the winner on the night, and Dead Rabbit held their heads high. “I didn’t think I could waltz in and win the competition. Zuma put up a good strong show, and I was a little worried at one point,” said Vose.

Muldoon is the co-founder and working partner of Dead Rabbit NYC, a cocktail bar in the heart of the ‘big apple’. “The level of performance and standard I saw here (Zuma) is top class, worthy of any top-top bar in the world,” says Muldoon. “A tough guy from a particular part of the world, is a tough guy all over the world. Similarly, a good cocktail bar should manage to hold its own regardless of which market they operate in. The difference that we have in New York, as compared to this market, is the number of cocktail bars operating at that top level are more in number. There are a lot of good bars here though.”

Muldoon’s Dead Rabbit was part of a promotional event for Jamesons Whiskey that witnessed the bar from the Bronx hit a few nightlife venues in Dubai engaging in a duel with them.

Muldoon feels the importance of social media is such that it can influence the very survival of a bar. “We had a very famous bar in Belfast (Ireland) before we went to New York, which did no social media whatsoever and it was fine for that time. However, it’s become very important over the last five years. A bar that opens in New York and decides to stay away from social media is going to be lucky to survive,” he said.

Muldoon also told Hotelier's sister publicatons Caterer Middle East that the legendary bar has no immediate plans of expanding in the Middle East.
