Louvre Hotels Group has announced that it will open 11 new hotels in the MENA region this year, including six hotels in the GCC.

The news follows the announced last week that Louvre Hotels Group intends to open 40 mid-market hotels in the region by 2020.

The move forms part of an aggressive expansion plan that will see the group increase its operational footprint in MENA, with 95 hotels and more than 15,000 guest rooms under its regional portfolio by 2020.

The new openings in 2016 alone will add 1,500 keys to the group’s existing inventory in the region - this includes three hotels in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and two each in the United Arab Emirates and Lebanon.

The group will also open properties in Qatar, Algeria, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia and Tunisia this year.

Amongst the properties that it has opened this year is the 110-room Golden Tulip Oran in Algeria and the 250-key Golden Tulip Taj Sultan Resort Hammamat in Tunisia. Whereas, 2016 will witness the opening of three Golden Tulip hotels in KSA, two in UAE, and one each in Doha, Lebanon and Tunisia.

Louvre Hotels Group MENA president Amine E. Moukarzel said: “Increasingly, we are seeing that growth in the MENA hospitality market is being driven not by luxury or premium hotels, but instead by midscale and budget hotels that offer the full spectrum of services at an affordable price.

“This presents an enormous window of opportunity for international players like Louvre Hotels to bring our global reputation and high standards to the table and combine these with a superior customer value proposition to reshape the dynamics of the regional hospitality industry,” Moukarzel added.
