How do you maintain balance between price and quality?

Farah Aslam: There should always be testing involved for all products that are quoted for similar specifications. These days it’s easier for hotels to go for the cheapest option, however it is far from cost saving in the long run. Durability matters in terms of bedding, and it is an investment that should be made with careful consideration.

Pinar Tunali: As a manufacturer, we have our own ‘integrated washing line’ that helps us offer high potential and quality raw material for down and feather. This enables us to present qualified bedding products at competitive prices.

Elisabeth Hintermann: Quality is always the most important aspect and to keep up with competition. We only outsource all the sewing of our production department to Eastern Europe. The fabric is woven and produced in Germany, the filling also happens in Germany, and it is only sewn at our partner companies in Eastern Europe. Thus, a high-quality and cost-effective product is created. Besides, we also get the raw material of down feather from Eastern European countries and therefore the freight cost is low. The raw material is washed and cleaned, sterilised and certified in a separate owned partner company in Germany. So the supply of the raw material is in our own consortium. At Mühldorfer, the company observes a lean administrative procedure.

Balan Somasundaram: We are able to offer our customers real value for the money, by our adherence to high quality standards and also by the technical expertise we have gained over almost four decades of manufacturing. As most of the raw materials for the beds, from springs to foam and fibre are produced by us, we are able to offer extremely competitive prices.

What are some of the challenges hoteliers have faced with beds and bedding products and how you have helped them solve it?

Farah Aslam: We have seen some hotels that have made purchases for bed linen during their pre-opening phase that are not according to specification of their brand in terms of technical fabrication. Since we have our own factory within the UAE we have assisted them in correcting technical issues in our facilities and not having to go through the process of discarding linen that is otherwise usable.

Pinar Tunali: Maya Tekstil has a Nomite certificate, which proves there are no mites in the raw material. The raw material also prevents bed bugs from entering.

Elisabeth Hintermann: Mühldorfer only produces hypoallergenic bedding products. All bedding items from Mühldorfer are 60-95°C washable and tumbling resistant. Twenty minutes into a 60°C wash the bedding is sanitised and hypoallergenic.

Balan Somasundaram: For a new hotel, invariably, purchase of mattresses and beds is done in the final stages of the hotel openings. Therefore one of the main challenges, which hoteliers face, is that they have to get the complete quantities of beds on time. This is where we are able to meet the requirements because we are one of the largest bedding manufacturers in the GCC with a fully equipped 75,000m2 factory employing around 500 people, which enables on-time smooth execution of bulk orders.
