Excessive levels of pesticides have reportedly been found in some fruit and vegetables imported from India.
Produce had levels of pesticide that exceeded ‘permitted limits in accordance with international standards’, the Indian agricultural export development authority has been told, sister publication Arabian Business reports.
The discovery was following inspections by the Ministry for Climate Change and Environment and, consequently, exporters will now have to carry out new pesticide residue tests on chili peppers, mangoes and cucumbers before they can be approved for sale in the UAE, according to The National.
Standards are set by Codex Alimentarius Commission, the food regulatory body for the United Nations and World Health Organisation.
