Steigenberger’s has debuted its mid-market brand InterCityHotel in Salalah Oman, making it the first InterCity property to open outside Europe.

The official unveiling was done under the auspices of H E Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan bin Hamoud al Busaidy, Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar.

It is the first international mid-market hotel in the city as part of Steigenberger’s expansion programme in the Middle East, The Muscat Daily reported.

The InterCityHotel Salalah is located in a central location at the heart of the business district and within the immediate vicinity of various ministries.

The hotel is owned by Al Sedra Real Estate of Oman, a subsidiary of the Golden Group of Companies.

The hotel has 70 rooms spread across eight storeys, two meeting rooms, an all-day restaurant, a café, gym and steam rooms. The hotel also has a roof-top swimming pool.

The opening of InterCityHotel Salalah by Steigenberger Hotel Group, an international German operator in the sultanate comes in line with the German touristic market being one of the most important markets.

Oman recorded 66,000 German tourists visiting the Sultanate, which represented an annual growth in visitor numbers from Germany.

Golden Group of Companies chairman Shaikh Salim bin Ahmed bin Mohammed al Ghazali said: “The sultanate is an attractive tourism destination strengthened by its diversified components and Oman has witnessed a significant growth in the tourism sector which calls for key hotels to be available in the area such as InterCityHotel.”

Steigenberger Hotels AG CEO Puneet Chhatwal said: “Following our Steigenberger debut in Dubai in November last year, we are now bringing our IntercityHotel brand to the Middle East for the first time. This represents a further important milestone for us.”
