AccorHotels Middle East managing director & chief operating officer Olivier Granet has revealed to Hotelier Middle East that all its Middle East hotels are now recycling their waste.
He said: “Over the past year we have been working to maintain our commitments to the global Planet 21 programme. Our Middle East hotels remain committed to the programme which has now moved onto its second phase that will take us into 2020.”
The second phase of the Planet 21 programme is titled ‘Planet 21 in Action’, revealed Granet, and allows each hotel to set its own objectives and map out its own action plan including some initiatives against food waste management.

“My plan is to ensure that we continue to put sustainable hospitality at the core of our strategy, development and innovation processes, and push amongst all our brands and hotels the positive trend towards environmental responsibility and accountability.
“As part of this programme, we are proud to state that 100% of our Middle East hotels are now recycling their waste. We have set ourselves a series of measurable objectives for the year ahead and I believe our regional hotels are on track to meet all of them,” added Granet.
As of July 2016, AccorHotels had 87 properties in the Middle East, encompassing roughly 26,000 rooms spanning the full spectrum of brands from luxury to upscale (Fairmont, Raffles, Sofitel, Pullman, Swissôtel, MGallery, Grand Mercure) midscale and upper midscale (Novotel, Suite Novotel, Mercure, Adagio) and economy (ibis, ibis Styles and ibis Budget).
