Oman’s Al Hoota Cave is due to reopen on September 5, following significant refurbishment to the tourist facilities, conducted by Omran.
Responsibility for the development of Al Hoota was given to Omran by Oman’s Ministry of Tourism on June 1 2015.
The cave system stretches for 4.5km, although only 500m of this is currently accessible to the public.
According to a statement by Omran, the cave is Oman’s most popular natural tourist attraction, and has in the past achieved approximately 75,000 visitors a year. Al Hoota is also the first cave experience open to tourists in the GCC.
Improvements to the tourist experience include Oman’s first electric train, which will take tourists from the visitor centre, directly into the cave. Other additions to the site are a restaurant and a geological museum with four interactive exhibits. Visits to the cave can now also be booked online prior to arrival.
Commenting on the refurbishment of Al Hoota, Omran director of projects development Khalid Mirza said: “It was critical that maintaining such an important and precious natural attraction was done comprehensively, especially to address areas of the cave that had been affected by floods. Omran has worked closely with the Ministry of Tourism to enhance the natural assets of the cave to create a top class tourist experience.”
Mirza added: “We’re expecting a lot of visitors to come and discover the caves during the Eid Al Adha weekend, whether for the first time or for a return visit.”
