Qatar’s first vegan cafe recently opened at Qanat Quartier on the Pearl Qatar, offering menu items such as ginger edamame, veggie burgers and vegan cheesecake.

Evergreen Organics, founded by Qatari entrepreneur Jawaher Al Fardan and first-time restaurateur Ghanim Al Sulaiti, does not use meat or dairy in any of its dishes. It also does not serve anything containing refined sugar and adheres to an ‘earth-to-table’ concept.

Dishes are prepared using organic ingredients by the cafe’s executive chef Matt Downes, who headed up vegetarian restaurant The Gothic in the US, and his sous chef Maros Weiser, who was previously head chef at London-based raw food restaurant Nama Artisan foods.

On the beverage side, Evergeen organics offers a smoothie and cold-pressed juice menu using organic fruit, vegetables and herbs.
