Roberto’s Abu Dhabi has taken delivery of the biggest white truffle to be flown into the UAE.

The 580g white truffle was purchased by the restaurant's executive chef, Francesco Guarracino, for US $35,400 (AED130,000).

The truffle was underground, below an oak tree in Sienna, Tuscany, when it was sniffed out by a truffle-hunting dog.

Guarracino commented in a statement: "This record-breaking truffle will be used for two weeks at Roberto’s Abu Dhabi. With two-Michelin starred chef Enrico Bartolini - our chief culinary advisor - we have developed a very special truffle menu, where each guest can have of piece of the fragrant treasure we have just received."

Massimo Vidoni, founder and CEO of locally-operated company ItalTouch, brought the truffle to the newly-opened Italian restaurant on Al Maryah Island.

Italtouch specialises in Italian products, particularly white and black truffles, and Italian-national Vidoni has developed a reputation among chefs in the MENA region as 'The Truffle Man'.

He was responsible for importing the biggest black truffle to reach the GCC last year, which weighed in at 930g and was worth more than $4,000 (AED14,690).
