Blends & Brews Coffee Shoppe is offering customers the chance to 'sponsor' a cup of coffee for people on a low-income.
The scheme means customers pay for a cup of coffee that someone else can have at a later date, reports Gulf News.
Customers pay US$4 (AED15) per cup but instead of a receipt, a sticker with a code to redeem a hot drink is posted on a wall in the outlet.
Gulf News reports that 19 Blends and Brews outlets are taking part in the initiative and that the branch at Rashid Hospital’s trauma centre is seeing the most uptake.
Since the initiative was launched, more than 2,000 cups across all the outlets have been redeemed - the majority at Rashid Hospital, which sees high footfall of labourers and low-income workers.
Owned by Thumbay Group, Blends & Brews Coffee Shoppe has multiple outlets in Dubai, Sharjah, Fujairah and Ajman, in addition to an outlet in Hyderabad, India.
