The S. Pellegrino Young Chef Awards is a world-wide culinary competition which aims to identify and encourage the professional growth of talented up-and-comers.

Chefs with at least one year’s work experience were invited to compete with a signature dish that was tasted by a jury of seven renowned chefs.

Regional chefs making the cut this year were Aditya Kumar Jha, chef at Tamba (Abu Dhabi); Jorge Alexis Falcon Valera the sous chef at Cantina Kahlo (Manama); Mario Christianto, chef at The Exchange Grill Restaurant (Dubai) and Nigel Lobo, the chef at The Eloquent Elephant (Dubai).

The second edition of the event, which was held last year, saw over 3,000 chefs apply form around the globe with the USA’s Mitch Lienhard winning the title under Dominique Crenn’s mentorship.

Speaking about his win Lienhard said: “The experience has provided many unforgettable moments so far, and I am thankful for the impact the title will have on my career.”

The local finals will take place from the June 7 to December 31, 2017 and the finalists will travel to Milan for the grand finale on June 23 2018.
