Wyndham Hotel Group has appointed Stefan Thumiger as the cluster general manager for Ramada Plaza Jumeirah Beach and Ramada Hotel & Suites Sharjah.

Thumiger has more than 34 years of hospitality experience having worked at properties managed by global hotel chains such as Banyan Tree, Hilton and Le Meridien. Prior to taking on his new role, Thumiger served as chief operating officer hospitality of Treasure Bay Bintan at Landmark Berhad, Singapore. 

He holds a degree in Federal Chartered Hotelier/Caterer HF/SHL from the Swiss hotel and catering school in Lucerne, Switzerland.

He began his career in 1983 as an apprentice chef at the Palace Hotel in Switzerland.

During his career, Thumiger has held several titles such as executive chef for the Swiss Military (1987), assistant food and beverage manager at the Burswood Resort & Casino, Australia (1994-1996), food and beverage manager at Ankara Hilton, Turkey (2000-2004), director of operations / deputy general manager at Hilton Abu Dhabi, UAE (2004-2008) which saw the conversion from a four-property to a five-property under his guidance.

He then was corporate general manager of Banyan Tree Hotel & Resorts, Thailand, Bangkok and played a role in the pre-opening teams of Seoul, Dubai, Macau and Koh Samui, where he oversaw the whole pre-opening phase, from construction to opening. The success of this resulted in Thumiger being appointed as general manager of Banyan Tree Club & Spa Seoul, South Korea (2009) where he was responsible for opening  the five-star boutique city hotel.

Stefan Thumiger is a Swiss national with Australian citizenship. In addition to his Hotel Management Degree, Thumiger earned certificates in Marketing Strategy, Hotel Revenue Management, Financial Management Hotel Real Estate Investments and Asset Management from Cornell University, USA.

The previous cluster GM for these two properties was Alper Can Bulcum.
