Ras Al Khaimah have announced the launch of the world’s longest zip line at a press conference with a tentative launch date as December 2017. This will mark the completion of phase 1 of the entire project with phase 2 slated for a May 2018 completion date and phase 3 in December 2018.

The zip line is being developed around Jebel Jais, the UAE’s highest point. The mountain is also in the development stages of a huge observation deck, which will feature viewing spots, picnic areas as well as a visitor’s centre and even food trucks.

RAKTDA has yet to announce the exact length of the zip line but it will beat current Guinness World Record holder Puerto Rico’s Toro Verde Adventure Park, currently with a zip line measuring 2,530 metres in length.

Haitham Mattar, CEO of RAKTDA said at the press conference, "The zip line will be a great addition to the emirate's other adventure tourism spots and will help RAK reach its goal of attracting three million visitors by 2020 which will be on par with countries like Oman."

He added: “Building on the success of last year’s launch of the Jebel Jais Via Ferrata adventure product, the new zip line represents Ras Al Khaimah’s most significant tourism product opening since Al Marjan Island, our coral shaped leisure tourism archipelago.

The zip line is set to be more than 28 soccer field in length, with adventure seekers expected to travel at speeds of between 90 to 130 kph. The cable itself will weigh in at seven tonnes.

It will be open to all ages as long as they meet the minimum weight of 35kg and maximum weight of 150kg, and a minimum height of 120cm.

Phase 1 of the project is expected to cost around $2m (AED7.3m) to $3m (AED11m), while the overall value of the project, which will also include a dedicated VIP lounge and welcome centre, will be between $6m (AED22m) and $10m (AED36.7m), Toro Verde told Construction Week.
