Participating at The Hotel Show for the first time in 2017, HP showcased its latex printing technology which can allow hotels and interior designers to create interiors relatively easily and at a lower cost.

At the trade show, HP’s stand featured a hotel lobby, a hotel restaurant which changed themes every single day, and a library, which provided examples of how to create interiors with HP's offering.

The offering allows customers to create designs with HP's latex printers, which can then be easily applied to floors, walls, window blinds, work surfaces and framed decorative prints.

The water-based formulations of HP Latex Inks are odourless, making the prints ideal for indoor environments. Explaining this technology further to Hotelier Middle East was HP regional business manager, large format printing Middle East, Mediterranean and Africa Ernest Azzam, who said: "The technologies previously available use solvent ink because you need melt the materials so the ink sticks to it well. That material is hazardous to health and it smells, because of its chemicals. HP developed an ink which would give the same result but is safer for the environment.

"We created the latex technology ink where we melt the latex on to the ink and paper so it locks it and doesn’t fade away. You get the same result: excellent quality, lasts for three years, and is water-resistant, but now it doesn’t have a smell and doesn’t have hazardous chemicals."

When HP created this, customers started using the ink and prints indoors, leading to its potential for interior design being realised.

The current offering also allows customers to add their designs to 3D renders on HP’s Sprout Pro to see how the creation will look before printing on HP’s latex printers.

Azzam added that this technology would benefit hotels across all star-ratings, adding that the mid-market hospitality scene would potentially find this extremely cost-effective. He added: "There is a perception that printing is not up to the standards in terms of the quality and luxury, that’s why we have different themes at The Hotel Show to show [hoteliers] what they can do. We want to show hoteliers what is possible with this technology, and the savings they can make with this."
