Mads Houlberg has taken up his appointment as senior vice president, Airport Catering Services for Garhoud-based Emirates Flight Catering (EKFC), a 58,600 square metre state-of-the-art catering facility employing a workforce of over 10,000 people, including more than 1,000 chefs.

Houlberg, from Melbourne in Australia, has over 20 years’ experience in senior management roles within a range of leading food and beverage operations around the world, including Thailand, the US and Australia.

In his new role, Houlberg will be responsible for managing the facility’s imposing EKFC1 facility, built at a cost of US$159 million in 2007 to provide world-class catering for Dubai-based airline Emirates’ First and Business Class cabins. EKFC 2 handles the catering requirements for other airlines operating in Dubai at both DXB and DWC. His remit includes ensuring the smooth running of both operations and food production in accordance with best practice and international standards, together with working closely with local suppliers, staff and clients to ensure the business continually delivers the highest standards.
