Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah and GEMS Westminster School in Ras Al Khaimah have launched an educational project where children between the ages of eight and 13 will have the opportunity to work in a five-star hotel for a day.
The children will work a half-day shift with all the responsibilities and duties that it entails, be it concierge, sous chef, front office agent or waiter. When children arrive for their shift, they will adorn hotel uniforms, wear nametags, and start a training programme to learn the basics of working in a hotel, while shadowing senior team members throughout the day.
Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah general manager Alan Stocker said in a statement: "Designed to empower and inspire, this project gives the youngest generation a chance to challenge themselves and think about the career they may pursue in the future. We believe in practical learning – let children explore the world of hospitality and work together as a team."
The day is concluded with an interview where the children can share their impressions and learnings from their first working day with the GM, and will take home a Waldorf Astoria certificate.
Begona Campoy, HR director of Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah, said: "At Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah we create the ideal environment for kids to learn about hospitality occupations and careers, all while building skills like teamwork, trust and accountability. With this job, the children pick up some real-life skills. They also learn how to collaborate and communicate in the different levels."
The Little Hoteliers experience is available each month and available for up to five students at a time.
