InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) and Diamond Developers have held a ground-breaking ceremony for Hotel Indigo Dubai Sustainable City.

Located in Dubai’s first sustainable integrated development, the 143-key hotel will be a 'net zero energy' building, where 100% of its energy needs will be met by solar power. The architecture and interior design across the hotel, as well as hotel operations and guest experiences, are meant to incorporate sustainability principles.

IHG chief operating officer India, Middle East & Africa Pascal Gauvin said: "We are delighted to partner with Diamond Developers to bring the first fully sustainable hotel in the UAE. Hotel Indigo Dubai Sustainable City is set to be the most coveted boutique property in the Emirate, that will showcase design elements and guests’ experiences inspired from its sustainable, eco-friendly neighbourhood. Positioning us as the industry pioneers, this will be a landmark hotel from our portfolio within the region. Upon completion, we look forward to welcoming our guests to this exclusive property, that reflects the changing tastes of the discerning travellers who not only seek unique local experiences but are also sensitive to their own carbon footprint and believe in greater environmental stewardship.”

Diamond Developer CEO Faris Saeed added: “We have created a living, breathing, sustainable community that is cost-effective and eco-friendly for over 300 families, and after proving that the concept is feasible and successful, we look forward to commencing phase two of The Sustainable City, with Hotel Indigo representing the first of four buildings that we are adding. This hotel will open the door for visitors and tourists to enjoy the exhilarating experience of living in harmony with nature and significantly minimising their carbon footprint.”

Hotel Indigo Dubai Sustainable City will have a neighbourhood café and a speciality restaurant. Both café and the restaurant will be supplied with fresh produce from urban farming facilities that are intended to be merged to hotel grounds and the Sustainable City biodome greenhouses. The hotel will also offer indoor and outdoor event venues that are integrated into the landscape of the orchard and urban farms. Various wellness and leisure facilities include a fully equipped gymnasium, an outdoor pool inspired by cascading natural pools, an outdoor yoga deck within the orchard as well as two treatment rooms with private terraces.

Upon completion, Hotel Indigo Dubai Sustainable City will be a 10-minute drive away from the Dubai Expo 2020 site.
