Mikael Svensson. Mikael Svensson.

Former Viceroy Palm Jumeirah Dubai general manager Mikael Svensson has moved on, joining Hong Kong-based hospitality management and building solutions company Louis T Collection as senior vice president.

In his new role, Svensson will oversee operations of the group’s current hotel portfolio, which spans from Thailand to Sri Lanka, France to Australia, and work closely with its technical services team on new projects.

The Swedish native most recently handled the 2017 opening of Viceroy Palm Jumeirah Dubai, with 468 hotel keys and 220 residential units, as the property's general manager. He departed from the role when less than three months after the hotel opening, Dubai-based real estate development and hospitality group Five Holdings launched its own hotel management company brand, Five Hotels & Resorts, under its subsidiary Five Hospitality LLC, and took over the operations of the property, thereby terminating its agreement with Viceroy Hotel Group. The legal tussle between Viceroy and Five Holdings has still not been resolved.

Svensson has held general manager roles at Park Hyatt Canberra, Hyatt Regency Hua Hin, and at Tokyo’s Roppongi Hills Club for Hyatt International. He began his hospitality career in Sweden, later relocating to Asia. Prior to becoming a hotel general manager, he held various senior F&B positions at Grand Hyatt Mumbai, Hyatt Regency Osaka, Grand Hyatt Taipei, Grand Hyatt Hong Kong and Grand Hyatt Seoul.
