The Northern Emirate of Sharjah has been named as one of the most affordable five-star holiday destination in the world. 

According to global travel search engine, Skyscanner, Sharjah ranked fifth on the research compiled by its team at skyscanner.ae/hotels.

However, it's not the cheapest destination to offer five-star stays for less. In the list of 100 cities offering affordable five-star accommodation, only the Egyptian resorts of Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada, Kuala Lumpur and Sofia were ranked cheaper than Sharjah.

According to the data compiled, Sharjah offered five-star stays at an average of AED497 (US $135) per night, while the cheapest (Sharm El Sheikh) offered luxury rooms for an average of AED389 ($106) per night.

The data also showed that Abu Dhabi at AED814 ($221.6) per night was ranked the 26th cheapest five-star destination while the holy city of Makkah in Saudi Arabia was ranked 64th at AED1,245 ($339).

HotelierMiddleEast.com previously reported that Sharjah was the UAE's next big hospitality destination. Sharjah’s hospitality sector revenues witnessed a 7.8% increase during the first half of 2017 compared with the previous year, with its value reaching AED372 million, the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) revealed.
