This hotel guest's ban has (finally) been lifted after 17 years

A hotel guest has finally had his ban from staying at Canada's Fairmont Empress hotel lifted after apologising for an incident where a horde of seagulls trashed his hotel room. 

Nick Burchill, from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, was staying at the Empress for a business meeting in 2001 and was carrying with a suitcase full of pepperoni when he left it out in the open near a window.

In an open letter on Facebook, Burchill detailed the events surrounding the incident.

Burchill wrote: “I remember walking down the long hall and opening the door to my room to find an entire flock of seagulls in my room. I didn’t have time to count, but there must have been 40 of them and they had been in my room, eating pepperoni for a long time.

The incident also involved lots of seagull drool, excrement, feathers, pepperoni chunks and losing one of his shoes in the process. 

However after 17 years, Ryan Rearden, director rooms division of the Empress, reviewed his plea and lifted the ban.
