An emergency response plan had to be put in place over the weekend in Kuwait as at least 287 were struck down with food poisoning after eating at a falafel restaurant in the Hawally area, according to Kuwait News Agency KUNA.

Kuwait’s health ministry put the emergency plan in action, with six public hospitals and an unspecified number of private hospitals having to deal with almost 300 cases of illness.

Public Authority for Food and Nutrition Dr Amal Al Rashdan issued an order shutting the restaurant down and the proprietor has been referred for public prosecution.
