Tributes have poured in for industry leader and Citymax Hotels' ex-COO Russel Sharpe who passed away last week after a cardiac arrest.

Many of his ex-colleagues and friends took to LinkedIn to extend their condolences on his passing.

Sharpe graduated from Surrey University focused on developing a career within the hotel and catering industry. Starting as a chef, he moved into management initially as a food & beverage manager, then rooms division manager before becoming a general manager of a five-star hotel in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

He held various senior regional posts with Holiday Inn, Accor and Le Meridien Hotels and Resorts. He also held the job of director of acquisitions with Emirates Leisure Division during which time he expanded the Premier Inn brand throughout the Middle East.
