Deutsche Hospitality, a part of its commitment to social project, is donating funds towards the construction of a private school in Enugu, Nigeria. The school, which once built, will be able to accommodate up to 300 students.

The Germany-based company has already handed over a cheque for €60,000 (US $70,158) to the Reiner Meutsch “Fly & Help” Foundation to pay for the construction, a statement said. The hotel company entered a long-term agreement with the foundation in December 2017 with an aim to promote education in developing countries.

The donated funds were raised the “Deutsche Hospitality 1x1” scheme, which donates €1 ($1.17) to charitable causes for every booking made via the Steigenberger and IntercityHotel websites.

The school will be spread over an area of 600m2 and will consist 10 classrooms and will operate under the private school model. For students unable to pay for the schooling, the hotel company noted that there will financial support in the form of donations from sponsors.

Besides the school, plans are also in place to construct an orphanage for children and a nursery school in Enugu.

Commenting on the social project, Deutsche Hospitality CEO Thomas Willms said: “Supporting a social project of this kind is a matter which is very close to our hearts.”

“Our 1x1 donation project allows us to collect money for worthy causes. We are unbelievably proud that the monies raised have enabled us to assist with such a large number of great projects,” he added.
