Hilton Worldwide revealed its plans to more than double its portfolio in Africa in the next five years as it launched the first hotel under Curio Collection by Hilton, Legend Hotel Lagos Airport, in Africa.
Located adjacent to the airport’s private jet terminal, The Legend Hotel Lagos Airport offers 54 guest rooms and is the second Hilton property in Nigeria with an additional seven in the operator’s pipeline for the country.
Commenting on the opening, Hilton CEO Chris Nassetta at the Africa Hotel Investment Forum (AHIF) in Nairobi, Kenya, said that the hotel is part of the company’s strategy to open hotels in key cities and airport locations across the region.
This year alone, Hilton is looking at opening eight hotels in Africa, three of which will come under the Hilton Garden Inn flag.
The strategy to double its portfolio on the continent will include conversion of existing hotel to Hilton brands with an investment of US$50 million over five years. The strategy also includes new market entries in 13 countries where it does not currently operate including Botswana, Ghana, eSwatini (formerly Swaziland), Uganda, Malawi and Rwanda, a statement said.
