Mitt Romney, the former US presidential nominee, who was recently elected as a senator for the state of Utah in the 2018 US Midterm elections, has stepped down from his role as a member of the board of directors for Marriott International.
Romney noted that because of his new role, he won’t be able to “commit sufficient time and attention to Marriott and its shareholders,” according to a filing reported by Skift.
Romney, however, has been involved with the hotel company for more than two decades. He first joined as a Marriott director from 1993 to 2002 but left after he was elected a governor.
He served again from 2009 to 2011 but later put a halt again to run for president against Barack Obama in 2012. After he lost the race, Romney rejoined the hotel company’s board in 2012, the report stated.
After Romney’s resignation, Marriott’s board of directors has now reduced from 14 members to 13.
