Bangladesh’s economy has brought back InterContinental to the Bangladesh capital of Dhaka after being absent for 35 years, the country’s Daily Star recently reported in an interview with Pascal Gauvin, managing director for India, Middle East and Africa, IHG.

The report said Bangladesh economy “has been growing at over 6.5% in the last decade and achieved 7.86% GDP growth in 2017-18. This steady growth is said to be behind the increased visitors to the country.

Speaking to the newspaper, Gauvin said: It is really important for us to be in cities that have high growth. We need to grow in markets where are guests want to go.”

InterContinental Hotels & Resorts currently has 200 hotels in the world. IHG Dhaka is the Group’s 119th. There are 34 InterContinental hotels in India, Middle East and Africa, Gauvin told the newspaper.
