In an exclusive interview with Hotelier Middle East Sebastien Mariette, managing director of Emerald Palace Kempinski Dubai and Kempinski Hotel & Residences Palm Jumeirah, revealed that the number of 5-star hotel rooms to open in Palm Jumeirah in 2019 alone is 3,922.

Mariette also admitted that competition in the region is strong.

In January this year, Hotelier Middle East published its annual pipeline report, revealing that 2019 is expected to remain a “challenging environment for hoteliers for the most part in the MENA”.

In the report, data from STR global pointed to an expected additional 58,000 keys this year in the GCC, with Dubai facing the highest supply increase.
