Ibis has launched the 'ibis music programme', which is bringing live music experiences to its hotels globally in partnership with Sony Music UK's 4th Floor Creative Group, Spotify and Sziget Festival.

The new programme aims to offer local residents and travellers hubs for increased social interaction with the local community. It is a 360˚ activation in music beginning with a contest that consists of 44 intimate mini concerts staged in ibis hotels across 17 countries.

The contest launched March 29, 2019, and all ibis hotels worldwide are encouraged to take part by staging their own gigs beyond the official music contest activity.

In Ipsos' international survey recently conducted for ibis, 79% of respondents agreed that listening to music was essential in their lives. 84% claimed that music is a way to bond and share emotions, while 58% expressed a preference for listening to music while travelling. 50% of those surveyed said they would rather listen to live performances than recorded music. Moreover, 40% expect live concerts to be performed by emerging artists.

August 7 is the culmination of this project; at the Sziget Festival 2019 in Budapest, Hungary, nine up-and-coming artists will be selected to play by a judging panel, made up of industry experts including representatives from partners. From there, one act will be crowned ibis Music’s best up-and-coming artist, and will receive a prize to help launch their careers. The winner’s prize consists of working with Sony Music UK’s 4th Floor Creative Group to promote their band and mentoring through studio sessions to help launch their musical careers.
