As area vice president for the Middle East & Africa, Marriott International veteran Nihad Kattan, who has been with the company since 1981, heads up 22 properties spanning five lodging brands — JW Marriott, Marriott, Renaissance, Courtyard by Marriott and Marriott Executive Apartments.
And his influence is set to grow dramatically, with Marriott International opening a new regional headquarters in Dubai on January 1, 2010 ahead of major expansion plans to more than double its presence in the region by adding approximately 30 hotels over the next 36 months.

Having been awarded Marriott’s most prestigious honour of Marriott International General Manager of the Year in 2001 and working at the company’s properties in Saudi Arabia, Kattan well deserves his current role and place in the Hotelier Middle East Power 50.
As well as being focused on growth — the company posted a 20% increase in sales in 2008 for Middle East and Africa — Kattan is driven by his team and the five Dubai properties were awarded Best Employers in the Middle East by Hewitt Associates earlier this year.
