Bamboo Eco Resort & Spa, a luxury ecological resort planned for development in St. Mary, Jamaica, has signed a Heads of Terms Agreement with Six Senses to provide resort management, marketing, and branding.

Poised to be Six Senses’ premier Jamaica resort, Bamboo is designed to feature privately owned Villas, Condominium Units, a Hotel with 60 Suites, and a world-class Six Senses Spa. Environmentally sustainable resort operations and a positive community impact are key elements in the overall concept for Bamboo.

Bamboo’s co-founder and President, Jill McKenzie Burr said: “we are very excited to have the opportunity for Bamboo to be managed by a company that shares parallel social and environmental values and to bring the award-winning Six Senses brand to Jamaica.”

The Conceptual Master Plan for the resort features innovations in green building, organic architecture, bamboo construction, and a 2.5-megawatt (MW) renewable energy system to power the entire resort.

Bamboo is also collaborating with members of the Bob Marley family to create a One Love Music Village which honors the musical legend Bob Marley and showcases Jamaica’s vibrant music culture as part of the resort’s amenities.

Once developed, Bamboo will be managed by Six Senses as an environmentally focused resort and will incorporate the industry benchmark environmental practices established by Six Senses.

With a total project cost of US $125 million, the development of Bamboo is expected to take place over a four year period. The group aims to begin phase one development in 2011, with a projected opening in 2015.
