Hospitality company Cristal Hotels and Resorts plans to become one of the most environmentally friendly hotels in the region and will continue to lead corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in Abu Dhabi, according to its CEO.
Cristal Hotels and Resorts chief executive officer Peter Blackburn said: “Our industry is a major consumer of energy and water and one of the highest producers of waste within the service sector, so we can make a big difference by adopting better resource management strategies.”
Cristal Hotel Abu Dhabi has been praised for being the first hotel in the Emirate to implement the guidelines imposed by the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority’s (ADTA) Environmental Health and Safety Management System (EHSM), which applies to all hotels and hotel apartments in the Emirate.

The EHSMS policy was introduced in 2006 to ensure excellence in the management and protection of the environment, health and safety through key partnerships between the government and private sectors and is a major CSR platform for Cristal Hotel Abu Dhabi.
Cristal Hotels and Resorts Total Quality Management manager Immanuel Williams said: “Cristal Hotel engages in CSR activities based on the specific needs of the community we operate in. We also support local campaigns that touch on global concerns such as environmental degradation.”
The Abu Dhabi hotel regularly trains its staff on environmental responsibility and resource conservation. It also segregates the wastes produced by its offices, staff accommodation, and food production and recycles “one ton” of solid waste every week.
“There are many ways that we can contribute to the betterment of people’s lives and we are eager to incorporate these into our development plans to come up with a more holistic approach to our growth and success,” added Williams.
