“In John, we have a worthy champion and we are delighted that he will be competing for the title of Barista of the Year and wish him the best of luck in the London final.”

The final takes place on 21 October 2010 at the Costa Roastery in Lambeth, London where the company was founded in 1971 by the Costa brothers. At the final, Aguila will battle it out against some of Costa’s most accomplished baristas from around the world.

The 10 finalists from around the world will be tested once again on their ability to produce a technically perfect cup of hand-made coffee and their knowledge and understanding of the industry. They are also judged on their overall performance, flair and passion for great coffee.

They will also have to excite the judges, lead by the Costa Master of Coffee, Gennaro Pelliccia by creating their own unique signature drink which is judged on its taste, presentation and innovation.

Last year’s winning drink, created by Gabor Kamondi from the Costa store in Dorking, England was Pick Mint, a blend of Costa's signature espresso with mint, inspired by his love of the famous chocolates, After Eights.
