A newborn baby boy was found in the bathroom bin of a passenger jet that landed at the Philippines’ main international airport on Sunday.

The baby was discovered by cleaners, who alerted airport doctors to their discovery aboard the Gulf Air flight which had just landed from Bahrain and was preparing for a turn-around flight, an airport official said.

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), which operates the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, said that its medical team had named the infant 'George Francis' after the code of the carrier, and MIAA media affairs chief Connie Bungag added that medical personnel had pooled their resources to buy baby clothes, medicine, bottles and milk for him.

The MIAA is tracking the passenger who could have given birth to the baby or could possibly have carried the boy into the plane.

A closer inspection of the plane revealed that there were two adjacent passenger seats which both had blood smears on them.

Airport officials said that while they had the name or names of the occupants of the seats, it was also possible that the woman who gave birth might just have transferred to the seat.

Gulf Air officials were not immediately available for comment.
