Armani Hotel Dubai waiter robbed guests

Makes me ashamed to be South African. These staff get everything they need to work there-accommodation, flights, meals, not to mention the experience of working in one of the most fantastic places in the world. So many people would love to have the chance to work there, and someone can be so selfish and spoil it.

It's sad that people get themselves into these situations. Did he really think he was going to get away with it? And the punishment in this part of the world is really going to hurt. I can see why the Armani name adds to the drama but this kind of thing can and does happen everywhere...

It is disgusting what the young man did, but I would like to address the fact that it isn't always as glamorous for young people to work in Dubai, UAE as employment agencies make it appear to be. I am a 30 year old South African man who worked in Dubai, UAE between July 2001 & June 2002. There were about 100 South African youths who I knew who worked there at that time & many of us were promised luxuries & benefits before leaving South Africa. My friends who worked for the Jumeira group, lived in one of the posh Bur Dubai Golden Sands accommodations, but if you worked for some other companies [Edited], you ended up living in places like Al Qusais, Hor Al Anz or even the very disgusting Al Quoz where young people lived in old dilapidated buildings from pre 1971 which were in such poor state that they could not be rented out. I was signed into a very hectic contract, my flights were worked into my pay package & I got one meal while on shift. So think before you speak "hotelierza"

Hennie, I think my knowledge is mote current than you, having just been to Dubai, I visited several staff accommodations. Jumeirah has since moved and created a staff village- as has many other. Note that in awards, Jumeirah did not even feature on the ratings. Yes, there are still some places putting staff up in dungeons, but it all comes down to researching your property and contract before you get "blinded" by an agent. I have seen the Armani accommodation and know people who work there and they never had to resort to the extremes of stealing & actually enjoy it & are treated well. Sour grapes from 2001 doesn't justify his actions.

Well, this is not a good sign, but usually you must put your belongings in a safe box. But this is really shamefull. Poverty and low pay let you do things you shouldn't do.

Dear Hotelierza, if you go back & read the first line I wrote; 'It is DISGUSTING what the young man did, but I WOULD LIKE TO ADDRESS THE FACT THAT'..' you will find that I am making two individual statements. Lets address the first part; 'It is DISGUSTING what the young man did??' This makes your childish statement 'SOUR GRAPES FROM 2001 DOESN'T JUSTIFY HIS ACTIONS.' a very contradicting one. Now lets address the second part I wrote '., but I WOULD LIKE TO ADDRESS THE FACT THAT..' Here I explain that when you said 'These staff get everything they need to work there-accommodation, flights, meals??.' it was not always as glamorous to work in Dubai as people made it out to be & I randomly mentioned some scenarios which I experienced accommodation wise when I lived in Dubai in 2001-2002. BUT then you come & confirm that exactly what I experienced in Dubai2001-2002 was still happening, because 'old dilapidated buildings' I think are very much the same as 'Yes, there are still some places putting staff up in DUNGEONS!. The 20 year old waiter is guilty & I think we all agree that he needs to be punished, but please as I said before ???think before you speak "hotelierza", because your '(mote) more current' knowledge feels like a blast from the past to me!!!!

This is a sikness, I do not agree that low payment or wage drives you to steel, many rich do it, it is the culture, level of home education and respect of others, deserves a hand cut.
