Julia Alvaro, director of sales and marketing at La Ville Hotel & Suites City Walk Dubai, Autograph Collection, Marriott International
With over 20 years' experience in the hospitality industry, Julia Alvaro joins the La Ville as director of sales & marketing overseeing the entire revenue strategies, sales, marketing and PR functions.
Alvaro has worked across a variety of hotels and resorts, gaining in-depth knowledge and expertise across the hospitality sector. Her career began in 1995 at Le Meridien Waldorf, London where she worked in the rooms division. From there she accelerated her career with a move to Dubai in 1996 securing a position at the Jebel Ali Hotel & Resort. She soon discovered a passion for sales and joined the pre-opening team of Le Meridien Mina Seyahi Resort as part of the corporate sales team.
In 2001, Alvaro relocated to London and joined The Churchill Intercontinental (now part of Hyatt) where she was in charge of the ME and Diplomatic Market before moving to Swissôtel the Howard, London as assistant director of sales & marketing. Her key focus there was on driving growth and market share through effective sales, marketing and PR activities. Alvaro returned to Dubai in 2006 and joined Accor World Trade Centre Hotels as cluster director of sales, leading a sales team of 10. During her time with Accor, she supported the opening of the Palace Downtown (a Sofitel at the time) as part of the sales task force in absence of a director of sales & marketing.
Alvaro accepted a new challenge in 2009 as DOSM at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Media City where she led the team to reposition the hotel as a leisure focused venue, gaining a significant increase in market share as a result, in an extremely competitive environment. She then spent three years with Dusit Thani Hotel Dubai, where she held the position of director of sales & marketing since 2013.
