Hotel chain Travelodge has defended its decision to employ three women at one of its UK properties, all of whom have been convicted of murder.

UK daily newspaper The Sun revealed that the Travelodge York employed receptionist Pat Bulmer and room cleaners Linda White and Julie Richardson as part of a rehabilitation scheme.

It was revealed that Bulmer was imprisoned after colluding in the murder of her husband by her lover, White stabbed her partner to death and Richardson battered her father to death.

A Travelodge spokesman told the paper: “The workers from the rehabilitation programme are constantly assessed and have proven to be dedicated and hard-working individuals.

"They are motivated to make a better life for themselves and should be given every opportunity to succeed without prejudice.

"Travelodge does not discriminate and is a fair and progressive employer and has supported a number of employment schemes."

The employees had applied to Travelodge as part of a scheme to enable prisoners who present no threat to ease themselves back into society.
