A new TV show filmed in Dubai goes behind the scenes on the lives of people working in the emirate's hotel industry.

Gulf News reports that the new show - entitled Checking In - is written and directed by 21-year-old film-school graduate Naim Zaboura and set in the fictional Mina Grand Hotel.

The show revolves around the lives of 11 characters employed at the hotel, each of whom has a "dark secret"  which unravels as the episode progresses.

The multinational character list features a head concierge from India, a British hotel manager, a Colombian cleaning lady, and a Middle Eastern head of security. The filmaker said he was keen to capture the "truly international" nature of a Dubai hotel.

The pilot was shot in Dubai's Marriott Courtyard Hotel ballroom, which transformed into The Mina Grand's reception, for a week in January.

Zaboura hopes the show could become Dubai's first locally-produced TV series in English.

He told Gulf News the show will be "an eye-opener about the lives of people who work in the service industry".

A teaser for the show on its Facebook page asks: "When you walk into a hotel you are always greeted by well-dressed people that are always smiling and happy to help you... But what happens when you turn around??"
