UAE national Mohamed Kapital triumphed over his competitors to secure the coveted prize for Procurement Person of the Year, sponsored by Hertz, at the Hotelier Middle East Awards 2011.

Procurement managers have one of the toughest jobs in the business; having to go out and find produce, goods and services at the best possible prices, delivering consistent quality time after time. The judges noted that Kapital had managed a host of impressive changes, including restructuring the department and switching to one procurement platform.

Overjoyed at his win, Kapital commented: "Nobody can say that they can expect something like this. At the end, this goes back to the team, who have done a great job. They were the engine who added value to Jumeirah and created excellence. Today I’m not just happy for me, I’m happy for them."

"If you go back to the financial crisis in 2008, it changed a lot of things, including the mindset of all the strategic people here. We became more efficient, more focused and one of the advantages we gained out of this crisis was the lesson that we should  be more focused on the way we are working. We built our strategy and partnership with suppliers in a totally different way to the way we were working before the crisis," he continued.

In this category, Ilyas Bhatti from the Hilton Dubai Jumeirah was also highly commended for his work.
