The body of a 29-year-old woman was left bound and bloodied in a bathtub at the The Holiday Inn St. Louis-Forest Park, US, on Saturday morning.

The discovery was made by a hotel housekeeper who drew back the shower curtain to reveal the body of Jenifer Goertzen, from Morton, Illnoise, in her sixth-floor hotel room, UK national The Mail reported.

Meanwhile the man police suspected of her murder reportedly killed himself on Saturday evening.

Police said Goertzen was covered in blood and had bruises on her face when they found her.

“The victim's wrists, ankles and neck were bound,” a police report said.

Capt. Michael Sack of the St. Louis Police Department said: 'There were certainly obvious signs of violence to the victim,'

Goertzen had been staying in the room since Monday but police said she could have been killed up to 24 hours before the grim discovery.

At least 10 staff from the Texas Rangers baseball organisation were staying at the hotel for the World Series baseball championships against the Cardinals, though they are not believed to be linked to the crime in any way.

Police were interviewing guests at the Holiday Inn and reviewing surveillance footage on Sunday.

The hotel company said: “The Holiday Inn St. Louis-Forest Park holds the safety, comfort and well-being of its guests and employees as their top priority and concern. Our thoughts and prayers are with the guest's family and friends during this time.”

An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday.
