The Monaco firm behind one of the country's most exclusive beach clubs is now looking to restart work on a new hotel on Saadiyat Island following the launch of its Monte Carlo Beach Club which opened there last month.

Bernard Lambert, chief executive of Monte Carlo Société des Bains de Mer (SBM), said development will remain stalled until the Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC) decides to move forward with it, according to a report published in The National.

"We had envisioned the possibility, but it all depends on our friends at TDIC to see how they now bring the development of Saadiyat," he said.

"When we started discussing with TDIC, that was the plan, to build the club, and at the same time we had discussions about the possibility of developing a hotel. We will start again discussing eventually next year. There is nothing cast in stone as of yet," he continued.

Monte Carlo Beach Club on Saadiyat Island is SBM's first venture outside Monaco, and one of the most expensive in the country, with membership fees starting from AED 35,000 ($9528) a year.
