A former-hotel employee of the month who hid underneath a divan bed during police investigations has been found guilty of his two colleagues’ murder.

Attila Ban, 32, who worked at Radisson Edwardian Hotel in London, killed Alice Adams and Tibor Vass last August. Both Vass and Adams, who was stabbed 22 times, also worked at the hotel.

Ban was found to have hidden underneath the divan bed, on which Vass’ body lay, at the staff accommodation with a bottle of water and his mobile phone.

The night of the murder, Ban updated his Facebook status, saying "I would like to wake up from this nightmare", and when all three didn’t turn up for work the following day, police were called.

He stayed hidden under the bed during the police investigation, according to the pathologist’s report, and finally crawled out after the body had been removed.

He then cut his wrists and neck in an unsuccessful suicide attempt.

The court heard that Ban had developed a crush on Hungarian student Vass, but his affections were not reciprocated.

Rozalia Vass, Tibor’s mother, said: “It was impossible and devastating to believe something like this could happen. Previously, it was comforting for me to know that Tibor found a good friend in London who was mature, friendly and intelligent.”

"His friend promised me personally to look after my son and not to let anything happen to him. I trusted him and regarded him as my own child."
