The opening of Conrad Dubai has been delayed by up to six months with the launch pushed back from December 2012 to Q2 2013, a Hilton Worldwide spokesperson told Hotelier Middle East.

Back in June, general manager Mario Ferraro told Hotelier that he was planning to open the hotel — which will be the first under the luxury Conrad brand in the GCC — on December 12.

Hilton Worldwide attributed the delay to construction issues on the 553-room hotel, which is located on Sheikh Zayed Road next to the 10-year-old Fairmont Dubai.

“We can confirm that Conrad Dubai is scheduled to open in Q2 2013. The change in the opening date is due to a delay in the completion of the final stages of the hotel’s construction,” said the spokesperson.

“When opening the doors to a luxury hotel, it is essential to ensure every aspect is perfect and guests instantly receive a true luxury experience from the moment they step through the opening doors. With this in mind, we are taking the time to ensure we deliver our best from the beginning.

“Conrad Dubai will introduce a new and distinct level of smart luxury to Dubai’s cosmopolitan business and shopping districts. Offering the epitome of discrete luxury, the hotel will deliver a contemporary and sophisticated journey offering the unexpected experience and service for leisure and business travellers alike,” the spokesperson added.

Ferraro said his aim for Conrad Dubai to become “an ambassador of our brand in the region”.

“We have a large conference centre with two ballrooms, 14 meeting rooms, a large collection of F&B outlets, a unique pool deck of 5500m² on the seventh floor and innovative design,” said Ferraro.

The hotel, originally expected to open in 2011, is owned by PPM, Private Property Management, Abu Dhabi.
