Emaar Middle East, the Saudi Arabian arm of UAE-based real estate giant Emaar Properties, has begun the handover of 316 serviced apartments covering 11 floors of the huge Makkah Clock Tower building.

The serviced apartments will be available through Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, which also operates a hotel in the 601m-high tower - the tallest building to complete in 2012 which forms the focus of the Abraj al Bait tourism complex.

Emaar Middle East general manager Eng. Ahmad Al Kulli said: “The handover of the elegantly designed 5-star serviced apartments in Emaar Residences at Makkah Clock Tower is extremely special for us, and we are thankful to everyone who has extended their support."

The tower is topped by a 130ft clock - visible from 17km away - that announces daily prayer times, as well as a lunar observation centre and an Islamic Museum.

The serviced residences are located directly on the Haram Plaza and have their own dedicated lobby offering views of the Holy Kaaba. They also have direct access to other facilities including a shopping mall, restaurants, and modern medical centre.

There will also be a dedicated floor for prayer, gymnasium and business amenities, while preferential access will also be offered to dining outlets and conference & banqueting facilities within the hotel.

Emaar said that a limited number of the apartments remain available for sale to investors and are being offered through 23-year leaseholds. Units range in size from 40-230m2.

Emaar Properties managing director Ahmad Al Matrooshi said: “It gives us tremendous pride to commence the handover of homes in Emaar Residences at Makkah Clock Tower during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

"These 5-star serviced apartments – a first of its kind in the Kingdom - are designed to provide an inspiring experience for residents, who visit or stay in the Holy City of Makkah.”
