More than 220 Rezidor hotels in Europe, the Middle East and Africa have received eco-label certifications, the company has announced.

Key eco-labelling partners for the hotel group include Green Key, Nordic Swan, Green Tourism Business Scheme and Green Hospitality Award.

In order to receive a green certification, hotels have to comply with strict environmental requirements and actions criteria in energy and water savings, waste management, environmental management, use of fair trade and organic products.

The eco-labelling efforts are part of Rezidor’s Responsible Business Programme, which comprises three areas of focus – Think Planet for minimising the environmental footprint, Think People for caring about the health and safety of guests and employees, and Think together for takingresponsibility for business ethics in local communities.

Rezidor president and CEO Wolfgang M. Neumann said: “We are proud that 2/3 of our entire portfolio in operation is eco-labelled. Rezidor is a responsible organisation – we care for our planet and act in a sustainable way.”

Rezidor aims to become the first international hotel group to have all its properties eco-labelled by 2015.
