The first Hotelier Middle East Procurement Summit is scheduled to take place at the Oberoi Dubai on November 19, 2013.

During the course of the one day event, procurement professional from hotels across the GCC will take a strategic look at the way they do business, network with their peers, and benchmark practices against the best in the region.

The event will comprise of four panel discussions, which will tackle various issues procurement teams face, as set by the event’s advisory panel, which includes InterContinental Hotels Group Dubai Festival City director of procurement Akbar Siddiqi; Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi Hotel and Villas purchasing manager Asif Kayani; Bonnington Jumeirah Lakes Towers purchasing and materials manager Sunil Haridas; and Jumeirah at Etihad Towers procurement manager – finance Radha Valiathan.

The line-up of speakers at the Procurement Summit includes Bhanu Singh, director of procurement, Atlantis the Palm; Zahid Aslam, area director of purchasing, Shangri-La Hotel Dubai; Madhu Gopal, director of procurement, Anantara Hotels & Resorts, Abu Dhabi; and Hotelier Award winner Pushpa Nair, who is the director of procurement at Crowne Plaza Dubai.

Key topics of discussion at the inaugural Procurement Summit will include quality assurance and pre-qualification; supplier and product audits; strengthening and restructuring the hotel procurement department; keeping up with new technology; and transparency and safeguards.

Topics set by the advisory panel include: ‘International Best Practice – Where Does The Region Stand?’; ‘Game Changers – Which Planning and Research Strategies Will Guarantee Success?’; ‘Attaining the Best Value While Maintaining a Property’s Brand Standards’; and ‘Can Leadership and People Management Skills Really Make a Difference in Procurement?’

The Procurement Summit will also comprise a choice to two workshops: Consolidating Suppliers across Chains; and Mastering E-Procurement.

Procurement professionals at the event will also have an opportunity to meet and network with leading hospitality suppliers in the region, including Diversey, A. Ronai, Horeca, and Sysco Guest Supply, who will display their latest products for the hospitality sector.
