A Dubai Police CID team on a mission to arrest both a human trafficker and an internationally wanted criminal in a Dubai hotel, found and arrested a man impersonating a CID officer, reports The Gulf Today.

The Asian mechanic, AF (36), was arrested after Al Rifa’a policemen found him conducting a bogus CID mission inside a Dubai hotel last year. He has been referred to the Dubai Criminal Court for forging a police ID attributed to the Ajman government and impersonating a CID officer.

“I never presented the ID to anyone. It was the CID personnel who seized my wallet and removed it,” AF argued before Judge Arafan Omar Atiyya. The verdict will be issued on December 23.

An Indian manager, SC (32), narrated that AF had approached him at his restaurant in Bur Dubai, flashed a card, and identified himself as a CID officer. “He then told me he had a garage in Sharjah and was ready to help me in case of any problem. He gave me his phone number.

“Two days later, my car was involved in a traffic accident. After completing police procedures, I contacted AF to repair my car in his garage. He asked me to gather the accident documents and find him at a Bur Dubai hotel.”

“Upon reaching there, and over the mobile, he claimed he was on an official duty monitoring a certain suspect inside the hotel. He requested me to find him inside. While standing with him at the reception, a CID team rushed in and arrested a number of people including us.”

When the team asked SC about his presence at the hotel, he tried to explain to them that “this one (AF) who works with you in criminal investigations, had asked me to find him here. He even has a police ID in his wallet.”

The police team frisked AF and seized a bogus police ID from his wallet.
