W Doha Hotel & Residences in Qatar has launched a three-month environmental campaign in partnership with environmental solutions provider Averda, at the Doha College.

The project aims to raise awareness of the importance of recycling by engaging both students and parents in a number of competitions to recycle plastic bottles and cans using Averda’s reverse vending machines. The campaign’s overall mission is to promote recycling as a daily habit in people’s lives by inspiring them to care for the ecosystem and take responsibility for their actions.

From January to March, monthly competitions to recycle as many plastic bottles and cans will take place amongst students, classrooms and families and the W Doha will offer several prizes such as cupcakes from W Cafe and an all inclusive weekend stay.

W Doha general manager Safak Guvenc said: “We are honoured to be working on initiatives that drive awareness around green issues and that are aligned with Qatar’s 2030 national vision by working with the local community. Together we are on the right direction towards environmental sustainability within not only the school, the hotel and the local community, but on a global scale.”

W Doha was recently awarded the Green Key certificate, making it the first hotel in Qatar to receive the environmental label.
