Beach Rotana Abu Dhabi has launched the first food composting machine within the Rotana Group and Abu Dhabi.

The machine will help the hotel reduce solid food waste to landfill by up to 90% by transforming the waste into organic fertiliser.

The energy-efficient machine is fully automatic and a complete process takes 24 hours from the last input into the machine. The machine comes with two deodoriser units that control the moisture and odour produced by food waste using the carbon nano process technologies.

Commenting on the new system, Beach Rotana Abu Dhabi general manager Jorg A. Hauri said: “Beach Rotana Hotel Abu Dhabi has a strong commitment in sustainable and eco friendly environment by initiating its first ever food composting machine within the Rotana group. Reducing the amount of food waste placed into the composing machine lowers the cost of maintaining a landfill site and reduces carbon emissions.”

Beach Rotana environment, health and safety manager Dorsaf Teraoui added: “Food waste is one of the major challenges among the hospitality industry. As hoteliers, we have to embrace sustainability as a lifestyle and not only a single action. Therefore, at Beach Rotana, we try our utmost to incorporate it with the daily hotel operations.”

The initiative was launched on World Environment Day, a United Nations campaign to increase worldwide awareness and action for the environment.
