Hilton Worldwide has announced the opening of Hilton Zanzibar – Stone Town, located 64 kilometres off the coast of mainland Tanzania.

The opening of the 58-room hotel in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Stone Town marks the group’s third venture in the country.

John Greenleaf, global head, DoubleTree by Hilton said: “Stone Town is a city of prominent historical and artistic importance, and we are proud to enter as the first global hotel brand in the city.

DoubleTree by Hilton Zanzibar - Stone Town features guestrooms and suites decorated with traditional hand-carved furniture. The hotel’s conference centre has eight meeting rooms and breakout spaces, a complimentary business centre, A/V resources and full catering services.

The island of Zanzibar is known as ‘Spice Island’ for its long-standing association with the spice industry. Stone Town, the oldest section of Zanzibar, is made up of ancient stone houses, palaces from the Omani days, carved wooden doors and a treasure trove of bazaars and galleries.

The design of DoubleTree by Hilton Zanzibar - Stone Town reflects the architecture and influences of the travellers and settlers who traded with the islanders.

Food & beverage facilities include Taarab Restaurant and Lounge, the hotel’s rooftop dining venue, and Chai Kahawa, a casual café located by the conference centre.
